Sossusvlei is remote and days often begin early. Sesriem is the main gateway, while the final approach beyond the 2WD parking area requires suitable 4x4 driving or the local shuttle option. Confirm current access arrangements before your visit.
Access and timing
Plan around current gate times and allow for the drive between the gate, dunes and parking areas. Heat rises quickly, so carry water, sun protection and footwear suitable for hot sand.

- Keep extra time for walking and the return to your accommodation.
Remote-area preparation
